Russia, who will face world No1 Serena Williams’s sister Venus in the final, are vying for their second title after defeating Brazil in the final of the inaugural event in 2013. The American team, who beat Germany on Saturday, will face South Korea for the silverware after both the Netherlands and Australia lost their first-round matches.
“We are obviously very happy that two teams from the US will play in the final and we hope they can be ready for the toughest challenge of our tournament,” Petra Kvitova said.
“We are only one day away from the final and so much hard work has gone into everything by everyone involved in the events. I was very happy that we started with such a great opening match against South Korea. We only lost a single set and after that we played very well. I’m looking forward to Sunday and playing against an extremely talented team.”
The Americans were comprehensively beaten 6-0, 6-0 by the Netherlands in their opening match but were dominant against Germany and needed to fight back from 4-1 down in the deciding set to win 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.
